Office of Admissions
Rensselaer at Hartford
275 Windsor Street
Hartford, CT 06120-2991

All courses are open to qualified applicants, and may be taken independently by those wishing to pursue special interests or may be coordinated into programs leading to graduate degrees. Persons who wish to study for credit must comply with all Rensselaer at Hartford regulations.

Applications should be completed thirty (30) days prior to the start of the term you plan to attend. While early submission of applications is encouraged, we realize that changes in work and other priorities often result in late applications and as many as possible will be accommodated. An admission decision cannot be made until the application is complete. The application process includes submission of the $35 nonrefundable processing fee, transcripts, recommendations, if applicable, and any other supporting documents requested by the director of admissions. You will be notified in writing of the admission decision. Please note that your application and supporting materials cannot be returned. You are welcome to call the Office of Admissions at the numbers above to check if your credentials have arrived.

Applying for Degree Status
You may apply for degree status if you have received a bachelor's degree from an accredited undergraduate institution and have demonstrated a competitive academic record. Two letters of recommendation, as well as an official copy of all transcripts, will be reviewed to determine if you have the necessary academic qualifications to undertake a graduate program. In some cases conditional admission may be offered.

Transcripts and Recommendations
If you are applying for a degree program, it is your responsibility to request official transcripts from every institution listed on your application, whether or not a degree was completed. The Statement of Rank Form should be completed by the college awarding your bachelor's degree. If you are currently taking courses which are not listed on your transcript, please include a course list with your application; official transcripts are required upon course completion. If you have been out of school for several years, you may request employer recommendations. Current students or recent college graduates may request references from professors. A current résumé must also be submitted.

GMAT and Waiver Policy for MBA Candidates
The results of the Graduate Management Admission Test is one factor considered in the admission decision for applicants to the Management and Technology MBA program. There are certain occasions when other graduate level admission examinations (i.e., the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE)) are accepted in place of the GMAT. Please call the Office of Admissions for details. While part-time applicants must present a GMAT score as part of the admission file, a waiver of this requirement may be granted if the candidate presents:

  • significant analytical background as evidenced by strong undergraduate course work and grades; and

  • 2-5 years of progressively responsible significant work experience; or

  • a relevant graduate degree.

Following submission of the application and supporting credentials, the director of admissions will notify candidates if waiver of the GMAT requirement is granted. If you are an applicant for a full-time course of study (9 credit hours or more each semester), applicants will be required to submit GMAT scores. This requirement is seldom waived.

NOTE: The GMAT is not required for applicants to the MS in Management.

    The GRE
The Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) scores are not generally required when applying for MS in Computer Science or Engineering degrees. However, results from this examination may be requested by the director of admissions to determine admissibility. Applicants will be notified in writing if the test scores are necessary. Even if not required, submission of the GRE is very strongly recommended for those whose academic credentials are not clearly competitive.

Computer and Information Sciences Background Evaluation Form
Applicants to computer and information sciences programs are requested to submit the CIS background evaluation form (download below) along with the application materials.
